On the first day of our stay in the beautiful Bavarian village of Beilngries, teachers and students were made welcome by the principal of the Altmühtal Realschule, and also by the Vice County Commissioner, Ms. Rita Böhm. While the students made the presentations about each of their countries in front of the German students, the teachers attended a workshop in a traditional Bavarian bakery, where they learnt how to bake pretzels. After lunch, the whole group enjoyed a guided tour through the picturesque and well preserved village. The students had the rest of the afternoon free to be with their host families and partners.
We started our second day in Beilngries with a coach tour attended by all the participants, where we could enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Altmühtal Valley. We then visited a typical brewery (Schneider-Weisse), and, after having lunch in the beautiful town of Keilheim, we took a boat for an unforgettable river trip on the Danube. The views were really impressive, and the boat trip ended with a visit to the monastery of Weltenburg. We returned to Beilngries by coach.
The third day began at the school, where we attended together a P.E. class. Then the students, working in mixed groups, started preparing a class about the European Union. After that, all the participants in the project took a coach to the beautiful town of Regensburg. There, after having lunch at a typical pork restaurant, the students enjoyed a City Rally while the teachers attended an interesting guided tour through the mediaeval town.
Thursday began again at school, with an early team teaching lesson. Teachers and students had fun with a sample of games for using in the language classes. Then, while the students finished preparing their presentations, the teachers attended a lecture about using games in the classroom. After lunch, while the students enjoyed a free afternoon, the teachers visited the Audi factory in Westpark.
The last day of our week in Germany began again at school, where the students did their presentations in front of all the teachers and partners. Then the teachers had a meeting where some decisions were taken about the webpage and the necessary steps for the project dissemination. Meanwhile, the students began the preparations for the farewell party. The teachers had then the opportunity to visit the historical city of Nürnberg, where they saw the museum of the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds (Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände) and took a stroll through the old city. Back in Beilngries, it was time for the farewell party. It took place in the school lobby , with the attendance of students, parents and teachers, and the traditional Bavarian music band Blasmusik Dietfurt. Good food, good music, good company… and a great ending to a great week. We’ll meet again in Sweden!
